SymaizeMelissa is a French visual artist and illustrator, exhibiting and producing under the name of SYMAIZE. She graduated (DNSEP) from L'Ecole des Beaux Arts de Bordeaux (School of Fine Arts), specializing in painting & sculpture.
The themes she explores range widely, from animal-filled exotic imaginary scenes out of Victorian India or Frida's Mexico, to reinterpretations of A Clockwork Orange or Alien movies.
Her extremely detailed dotwork and texture drawing allows her to hide signs, characters, animals, jokes and other references inside her posters, for the public to get lost into them and search for more, like 4K pictures capturing extremely busy moments of her imagination. A B&W artistic version of "Where's Waldo?" some might say! |
Inspired by the codes and symbols of tattooing, fascinated by engravings, lithography and old prints, captivated by the multiplicity of the animal and plant world, and influenced by the seventh art, she built around these references a hybrid and complex universe by practicing the technique of dotwork (point by point) in her illustrations.
The illustrations of SYMAIZE question and convoke the viewer to plunge his eyes on each part of the drawing exposed, on formats ranging from A5 to A2. She works almost entirely in black ink at needle pen and colorizes her illustrations on a graphic tablet.
